RIGOLETTO strengthens European microelectronics for future vehicles

RISC-V-based computing platforms for software-defined vehicles Application area

Microelectronics is a key technology for digitalization and a cornerstone of Europe’s technological sovereignty. Within the European CHIPS partnership, RIGOLETTO contributes to the development of advanced hardware solutions for future electrified and autonomous vehicles.

The RIGOLETTO European research project officially began on 1 July 2026.  The project brings together partners from industry and research to develop advanced microelectronics solutions for future vehicle architectures. RIGOLETTO focuses on an open RISC-V-based hardware platform for software-defined, electrified and autonomous vehicles. It investigates scalable reference processors, dedicated accelerators for applications such as artificial intelligence, and the required software toolchains for efficient and secure development. These components will be integrated into a reference computing platform and demonstrated in practical use cases.

By developing powerful RISC-V processor solutions for modern vehicles, RIGOLETTO supports innovation, competitiveness, and technological sovereignty in the European automotive and semiconductor industries.
