RIGOLETTO and the Unified RISC-V IP Access Platform

European RISC-V research has produced a growing number of valuable IP assets. However, these results are often distributed across isolated repositories, project-specific platforms and heterogeneous metadata structures. This makes discovery, comparison, reuse and long-term maintenance difficult.

The Unified RISC-V IP Access Platform, UAP, addresses this challenge by providing a common catalogue and access layer for RISC-V IP developed in European initiatives such as TRISTAN, ISOLDE, RIGOLETTO and related projects.

The Silo Problem

Isolated repositories
Project-specific GitLab servers
Non-standardized metadata
No long-term maintenance
Short project timelines
Europe has world-class IP, but it's hidden in silos. The UAP responds to a common challenge in European RISC-V projects: valuable IP assets are developed, but they are not always easy to find, compare or maintain beyond the lifetime of individual projects.

Catalogue

UAP creates a structured catalogue layer. IP assets remain in their original repositories or access channels, while the UAP provides metadata, links, status information and access paths.

Open-source, proprietary and dual-licensed IP

UAP acts as a catalogue that guides users to the place where a listed IP can be obtained. OpenHW IP is typically hosted within the OpenHW Foundation GitHub organization, while third-party open-source IP may be available through GitHub, GitLab or other repositories. Proprietary IP can be represented through access information such as a contact form from the IP owner.

Towards richer IP information

Proprietary and dual-licensed IP assets can also be represented in the catalogue. The focus is on structured metadata, visibility and clear access paths for different types of RISC-V IP.

Governance and contribution

The UAP is organized by the Virtual Repository Task Group, founded during the TRISTAN project and governed by the OpenHW Foundation. The task group discusses new features, project integration, IP contributions and the future direction of the platform.

Projects and IP providers are invited to contribute metadata, improve catalogue entries and participate in the further development of the platform.
